Community

For the people, land, and businesses that keep Virginia growing.

F&M Bank was founded to serve farmers and merchants - and that purpose still guides us today.

Since 1908, we’ve supported the people, businesses, and industries that shape our communities, with local decisions, long-term relationships, and a commitment to reinvesting where we live and work.

Strong Communities Don’t Happen by Chance

They grow through steady support, shared investment, and people who show up.

Our Brand Pillars
We focus our community efforts around three core pillars: Sustenance, Security, and Enrichment—supporting the people, businesses, and organizations that make our communities strong.

These pillars are grounded in our GROW values—Gregarious, Resolute, Original, Wholehearted—and reflect how we show up every day.

From financial education to long-standing community partnerships, our approach is simple: invest locally, show up consistently, and help our communities move forward.

Supporting the everyday needs of our communities, including local businesses, agriculture, and essential services.

Collaborating with local farms, small businesses, and community food initiatives.

Creating stability through responsible banking, local decision-making, and support for the people who help keep our communities safe.

Providing trusted financial guidance and resources through every stage of life.

Investing in education, community initiatives, and programs that strengthen quality of life.

Supporting schools, literacy programs, and local events that bring people together.

Meet Our Mascot

Sammy the Squirrel
began as a class project by an F&M Bank marketing employee at West Virginia University, created to give the brand a more approachable, memorable personality.

A squirrel was the perfect fit—living in trees like the F&M logo, saving for the future, and appearing throughout the communities we serve.

After a brief trial run (with a costume costing under $100), Sammy quickly became a crowd favorite and has grown into a recognizable part of the F&M brand.

Strengthening Our Community Through Giving

  • Bank branches and offices collected 368 pounds of food, equal to 306 meals for the community during last winter's food drive.
  • During our annual Giving Tuesday initiative, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank was one of three organizations that received a donation to help further their mission.

Investing in Our Local Youth

  • F&M Bank was a major donor for a new vehicle for the Virginia FFA Foundation.
  • Our Ag teams local youth by purchasing top-place animals at the Rockingham County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show & Sale.
  • The bank partners with local organizations to purchase pigs from FFA/4-H members and donate the processed meat to local pantries as part of the "Pork for the Pantry" initiative.

Supporting What Matters, Across the Valley.
In addition to corporate donations and sponsorships, our dedicated employees support a wide range of local organizations and initiatives, including youth sports, libraries, senior programs, literacy initiatives, health clinics, first responders, agricultural programs, and more.
